According to Jospeh Pilates from his book "Return to life": "Contrology (as he called his training method) develops the body evenly, corrects incorrect postures, restores physical vitality, revitalizes the mind and uplifts the soul."
Pilates was developed over 70 years ago and is a unique Movement system. It works and balances the muscles through intensive stretching and strengthening exercises. Regular training improves posture, has a preventative effect and increases lung capacity through deep and controlled breathing. Pilates helps to perform movements more effectively and safely in other sports and to compensate for imbalances in the body. In addition, the exercises connect body, mind and soul and thus promote the Relaxation.
At the heart of the training method are the six principles of centering, concentration, control, precision, breathing and flow of movement. When practicing Quality before quantity and every movement starts in the center of the body. These are the deep muscle layers of the abdominal muscles (Joseph Pilates said at the time: "Use your gut"), the back and seat, which surround the center of the body like a wide band. A strong powerhouse improves body alignment and is responsible for healthy movement. Our body feels more supple, is more defined and stronger - body awareness improves!
The classical method teaches Pilates in its original form in individual private training and in very small groups. In addition to the physical work on the mat, the exercises are also performed on special Pilates equipment that facilitate access to the movement system.
